Basketball Academy – St Peter’s Collegiate Academy

In 2019, the Edge Foundation released the ‘14-19 Education – A New Baccalaureate’ report*, proposing a practical solution to expand the narrow academic EBacc by incorporating technical and creative subjects.

This report also emphasised the necessity for a coherent, unified, and holistic 14-19 phase of education, providing a clear pathway from school to workforce readiness, integrating academic and technical education into a single route, and fostering overall development including meta-skills and soft skills highly valued by employers. In response to broadening our academy’s offerings to cater to a wider range of interests, Basketball Slam was established.

Basketball Slam is tailored to meet the needs of elite athletes aged 16-19 who aspire to continue their athletic pursuits while obtaining qualifications. It is a two-year program providing additional support and guidance for both basketball and social development and education.

The program targets athletes with realistic potential for excellence in their sport. It also equips students with the skills, knowledge, and qualifications for secondary or supplementary careers such as coaching, sports development, fitness instruction, or higher education.

Located at St. Peter’s Collegiate, the academy ensures student-athletes gain a comprehensive understanding of the game through both individual and team coaching sessions. Graduates have the opportunity to pursue higher education degrees or enter the professional basketball arena. Beyond athletic and academic enrichment, the vision includes fostering leadership and potential away from the court through tailored challenges promoting independence and overall growth.

Whether aiming for higher education, securing scholarships in the UK or USA, or pursuing a career in professional basketball, our students benefit from comprehensive teaching, coaching, mentoring, and support to achieve their ambitions.

During your visit to our provision, you’ll have the opportunity to:
