Luke Lewis

Delivery Lead and Facilitator

Since qualifying from the University of Cumbria with a degree in Education and Special Educational needs, I have taught across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent and have been lucky enough to have taught across all Primary phases.

I currently teach in Year 2 and 3, but over my career I have experience of teaching from EYFS to Year 6.  I am currently the Deputy Headteacher at St Thomas’ Academy and have subject responsibility for Maths and enjoy delivering CPD sessions to the next generation of teachers and leaders.

Throughout my career, I have valued quality CPD opportunities; completing the NPQSL qualification, where my project involved supporting the transition to the new curriculum and designing and implementing assessment across school for Primary foundation subjects, a project that was noted in our Ofsted report.  I also champion the use of effective research and view this as an integral part of a progressive curriculum.  I am also proud to have gained the Chartered Teaching Qualification, where I conducted research into the acquisition and understanding of Maths vocabulary, where I was quoted in a DfE publication

I am passionate about the teaching of mathematics and think that awe and wonder and developing an ethos where children are valued and not afraid to make mistakes are at the heart of everything that we do. I aspire to bring learning to life and create experiences that both challenge and motivate children.  As a leader, I am passionate about supporting other professionals and giving them the tools that they need to succeed, I enjoy learning alongside others and developing the teaching of maths in different classrooms.

Over the past few years, I have been a Primary SLE for maths for a large trust where I have supported other practitioners in a number of ways through Google meetings, creating policies, team teaching, planning sessions and data analysis.

I am really looking forward to working with other practitioners to develop the teaching and learning of mathematics for the next generation.
