SENCo Support (Developmental)
‘UBUNTU’ – this word, drawn from the Zulu language is best translated – ‘I am because we are’. It says that flourishing is never an individual pursuit, but a collective endeavour, released in relationship and communities that live well together. (Our Hope for a Flourishing Schools System)
Our support for SENCos is very much based on Ubuntu. Being the SENCo in a school can be a very lonely job role – it can be hard to juggle everything and to prioritise workload. The constant pull between statutory work and high quality pre-statutory work can be challenging at the best of times.
Termly network meetings
Our termly network meetings bring SENCos (and other SEND leaders) together to discuss strategy, CPD, data and progress, as well as giving them a psychologically safe space for their own personal reflections and development.
Advice and support
Our SENCos can contact central team inclusion support staff for advice on an ‘as and when’ basis, with bookable diary slots available for more complex matters. Over the past few years, these advisory conversations have centred around:
- support in preparing for parent consultation meetings / reviews of APDR cycles
- development of resources
- brokering conversations between health and the school’s SENCo
- support with contacting the LA for children with disability social worker referrals
- annual review preparation
- requests for support at complex multi agency meetings
- … the list goes on …

Supervision
Being a SENCo is an emotionally challenging role – it can be an emotional rollercoaster. We recognise the need to look after our staff. SENCos at Three Spires Trust can all access termly supervision sessions with our Trust commissioned Educational Psychologist.
