Preparation for Adulthood

Preparation for Adulthood

‘Flourishing children are equipped, resourced and empowered to see the future through eyes full of hope.’ (Our Hope for a Flourishing Schools System)

All young people face big changes when they leave school and move towards adulthood. These changes can be especially challenging if they have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). At Three Spires Trust, we want to ensure the experience of transitioning to adulthood is a positive one and provide our children and young people with the advice and support they need to support their future aspirations.

At Three Spires trust, we feel that preparation for adulthood starts at the earliest years and should be built on throughout a child’ education journey. We support schools with a Preparation for Adulthood Toolkit which starts in early years and key stage 1 and works through to when our young people leave us at post 16. The Preparation for Adulthood Toolkit focusing on four pathways: employment, independent living, good health, and friends, family and community.

Additionally, we support children and young people who are in year 9 and have an Education, Health Care Plan with their transition through to adulthood, through their EHCP annual reviews transition processes.
